The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced 1,000 internship vacancies under the Ministry of Education, State Department for Basic Education.
The opportunities are part of the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Cohort 5 and are aimed at giving qualified graduates practical experience while supporting the use of technology and digital learning in schools across Kenya.
Successful candidates will be appointed and deployed to schools at the sub-county level, where they will support digital learning, e-learning, teacher training and other ICT-related services.
Who Can Apply?
According to the PSC vacancy announcement, candidates interested in the internship must meet specific academic and professional requirements.
Applicants must have graduated not earlier than 2022 and should possess a Bachelor's degree in Education with specialization in Information Communication Technology (ICT), a Bachelor's degree in ICT, or a Diploma in ICT or ICT Integration in Education from a recognized institution.
Candidates are also expected to have knowledge of networking and infrastructure, applications development, information security and project management.
They should also have the ability to integrate ICT with education, particularly in e-learning and content development, as well as skills in research and innovation to support the Digital Literacy Programme.
Applicants must be willing to work on a full-time basis at any Sub-county Education Office where they are deployed. They must also not have benefited from a similar programme previously.

What Will the Interns Do?
The selected interns will play an important role in supporting the use of technology in schools.
Their duties will include supporting e-learning and content development in line with school schemes of work. They will also provide classroom support and train primary school teachers on the use of digital literacy devices.
Other responsibilities will include supporting the implementation of the Digital Learning Programme and carrying out innovations that can help schools improve their use of digital learning.
The interns will also support the safe, secure and ethical use of technology in learning and assist teachers in integrating ICT into teaching, learning and assessment.
They will further support staff in the development and production of key school policies and procedures and provide first-line support and maintenance of ICT services in schools.
Internship Duration
The internship will run for 12 months and will be non-renewable.
The programme is designed to provide successful applicants with practical skills and experience while allowing them to contribute to the implementation of digital learning in Kenyan schools.
Will Interns Receive a Stipend?
Yes. The announcement states that interns will be paid a stipend by the State Department, at a rate determined by the Government.
The vacancy notice does not specify the exact monthly amount of the stipend.
Successful interns will also receive a certificate from the State Department for Basic Education upon successful completion of the internship programme.
