University Student Dies 2 Days After Admission to Murang’a University
A newly admitted student at Murang’a University of Technology has died just two days after being admitted to the institution.
The student, Daville Irungu, had been admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the School of Engineering and Technology.
According to a notice issued by the university on September 9, 2026, Irungu died on Friday, September 4, 2026, following a short illness.
The university said his death happened only two days after his admission, before he could begin his studies.
Irungu was expected to start his university journey alongside other newly admitted students. His sudden death has left his family, friends and members of the university community mourning.
Student was set to study Mechanical Engineering
Daville Irungu had secured admission to Murang’a University of Technology to pursue a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.
He was expected to begin his studies at the School of Engineering and Technology and work towards a career in the engineering field.
However, his plans were cut short after he died following a short illness, according to the university's announcement.
The university informed students and staff about the death through an official notice from the Office of the Dean of Students.
Burial date announced
The university has also announced details of the student's burial.
According to the notice, Daville Irungu will be buried on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
His burial will take place in Gitugi, Mathioya, Murang’a County.
The death has come as a shock to those who knew Irungu, especially because he had only recently been admitted to the university.
