Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made a bold prediction about President William Ruto’s political fortunes in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Oregon, USA, Gachagua said he had been closely following political developments in Kenya on Sunday, describing the latest political activities as evidence that “things are boiling very nicely.”
Gachagua highlighted political activities involving Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former Siaya Governor James Orengo, who attended a Sunday service at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.
According to Gachagua, the political team later took part in a procession that moved from Gikomba through Eastlands before heading towards Jacaranda. He claimed that hundreds of thousands of people participated in the procession while chanting “One Term.”
The former Deputy President described the Jacaranda gathering as one of the biggest political rallies ever held in Nairobi. He said the developments demonstrated what he considers growing opposition to President Ruto in the capital.
Gachagua further pointed to Nairobi’s large voter population, saying the city has about 2.7 million voters. He claimed that an alliance involving himself, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino had already established a strong political position in Nairobi.
“Nairobi is locked,” Gachagua declared.
He went on to make a bold prediction, claiming that the political team could secure as many as 2.5 million votes in Nairobi during the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua also claimed that President William Ruto could struggle to secure significant support in the capital, saying that if the President managed to obtain 10,000 votes, “atakuwa ameomba Mungu usiku na mchana.”
The former Deputy President went even further by predicting that UDA and ODM would not secure a single elective seat in Nairobi in the 2027 elections.
His remarks come as political activities and alliance-building continue to gain momentum across Kenya ahead of the next General Election. Nairobi is expected to remain one of the country's most closely watched political battlegrounds.
Gachagua also spoke about political activities in Central Kenya, saying leaders associated with the DCP brigade were in Othaya and Mathioya in Murang’a County.
He mentioned former Public Service Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and claimed that thousands of Kenyans attended the gatherings, where similar “One Term” chants were heard.
Gachagua’s comments are likely to fuel further political debate as different camps position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, the figures and electoral predictions made by the former Deputy President are political claims and have not been independently verified. The actual outcome will ultimately be determined by Kenyan voters at the ballot.
