Kalonzo Musyoka Unveils New Wiper Leadership Team as Four Leaders Receive Key Party Roles
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced a new group of senior officials as he moves to strengthen the party ahead of the next phase of Kenya’s political journey.
The changes have brought together politicians and professionals with different backgrounds, including former elected leaders, a sitting Member of Parliament, a lawyer and a former senior public administrator.
In his announcement, Kalonzo said the changes were meant to give the party a stronger leadership structure and help it speak to Kenyans from different parts of the country.
The appointments named Hon. Jamleck Irungu Kamau as Chairman of the Wiper Patriotic Front, Ambassador Siyat Osman Ibrahim as Deputy Chairperson, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as Deputy Party Leader Designate and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as the party’s first Spokesperson.
Kalonzo described the team as part of his efforts to build what he called a united and credible government in waiting. He also linked the new leadership structure to the party’s wider political message of “Komboa Kenya.”
The appointments are significant because the four individuals come from different political and professional backgrounds. Their inclusion also gives the party a wider range of experience as it prepares for the political contests ahead.
Jamleck Irungu Kamau is one of the most experienced political figures among the newly appointed officials. He previously represented Kigumo Constituency in the National Assembly and served as a Cabinet minister during the administration of former President Mwai Kibaki.
Kamau entered elective politics in the 2007 General Election, when he won the Kigumo parliamentary seat on a Party of National Unity ticket. He retained the seat in the 2013 election after joining The National Alliance, the party associated with then presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta. Parliamentary records and political databases show that he served in the National Assembly between 2007 and 2017.
His time in government gave him experience beyond constituency politics. He served as Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan during the Kibaki administration. A government publication on the Kibaki Cabinet records that Kamau took over the Nairobi Metropolitan docket in 2012 after previously serving ministers had moved to other responsibilities.
During his time in charge of Nairobi Metropolitan affairs, Kamau was associated with efforts to improve coordination within the capital and surrounding counties. His period in office also coincided with the installation of CCTV cameras at several major locations in Nairobi as part of efforts to address crime and traffic offences.
After leaving Parliament, Kamau remained active in politics. He later sought the Jubilee Party nomination for the Murang’a gubernatorial race but did not secure the ticket. He eventually contested the Murang’a governor position in the 2022 election and finished second behind Irungu Kang’ata, according to available election records.
His appointment as Wiper chairman therefore brings someone with experience in Parliament, national government and county-level politics into the party’s top leadership.
The second appointment went to Ambassador Siyat Osman Ibrahim, who was named Deputy Chairperson of the Wiper Patriotic Front.
Siyat comes from a public administration and diplomacy background. Records presented in a report by Kenya’s Parliament show that he has worked in several senior government positions over the years.
According to the parliamentary record, Siyat served as Mayor of Garissa Municipality from 1998 to 2007. He later worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2007 and 2013 before becoming County Secretary of Lamu from 2013 to 2017. He was also listed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Garissa County Investment Development Authority.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree and a diploma in International Relations and Diplomacy. The same parliamentary record states that he also holds a master's degree in Project Planning and Management and an executive qualification in conflict management.
Siyat has also had experience in electoral politics. During the 2022 General Election, he contested the Garissa Township parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket. He received fewer votes than eventual winner Aden Duale and finished among the candidates who challenged for the seat.
His appointment could therefore add experience in public administration, diplomacy and politics to the Wiper leadership. His background in northern Kenya and previous work in different government institutions also gives him a profile outside the party’s traditional political base.
The third appointment is that of Mohamed Ali, the sitting Member of Parliament for Nyali, who has been named Deputy Party Leader Designate.
Mohamed Ali is one of the better-known former journalists to make the move into Kenyan politics. Before entering Parliament, he became nationally recognised through investigative journalism and his work associated with the television programme “Jicho Pevu.”
The official Parliament profile shows that Ali has represented Nyali Constituency in the National Assembly since 2017. It also records his earlier work as Chief Investigations Editor at Kenya Television Network between 2007 and 2017. Before that, he worked in broadcasting and production roles at several media organisations.
His political journey began seriously in the run-up to the 2017 General Election. He initially sought the ODM nomination in Nyali but lost the party primary. He then decided to contest the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate and went on to win. Contemporary reporting from the 2017 election described his decision to leave the ODM nomination process and run independently.
Ali successfully defended his Nyali seat in the 2022 General Election, this time under the United Democratic Alliance ticket. Parliament continues to list him as the Member of Parliament for Nyali.
His journey from journalism to elective politics is important when looking at his new position in Wiper. As a journalist, he built his public image around investigations and questioning people in positions of power. As an MP, he has spent years participating directly in Parliament and constituency politics.
Ali has also been linked to independent media work. His professional history includes involvement in the establishment of Africa Uncensored, an organisation associated with investigative and public-interest journalism.
His appointment as Deputy Party Leader Designate therefore places a sitting MP with a strong public profile into a senior political position. It also gives Wiper a senior figure with experience in both media and parliamentary politics.
The fourth appointment is Ndegwa Njiru, who has been selected as the Wiper Patriotic Front’s first Spokesperson.
Njiru is a lawyer who has become a visible voice in Kenya’s political discussions, particularly through public commentary and his appearances in opposition political activities.
His political association with Kalonzo Musyoka and Wiper has been publicly known for some time. In December 2025, Njiru stated that although he had provided legal representation to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during his impeachment proceedings, his political allegiance was with Kalonzo Musyoka and the wider opposition movement.
That distinction is important because his professional work and political position have sometimes placed him in different spaces. His legal career has brought him into high-profile political cases, while his public statements have made him one of the lawyers frequently seen commenting on national political affairs.
As Spokesperson, Njiru is expected to become an important communication link between the party and the public. The position will require him to explain Wiper's decisions, respond to political developments and present the party's message to Kenyans.
The appointment also marks a new direction for the party's communication structure because Kalonzo has identified Njiru as the first person to hold the position of party spokesperson.
The four appointments come at a time when Wiper is presenting itself under the Wiper Patriotic Front name. The party rebranded from the Wiper Democratic Movement in 2025, with Kalonzo saying the new identity was intended to respond to changing political attitudes in Kenya, particularly among younger citizens.
The party's official platform currently identifies Kalonzo Musyoka as its leader and presents the organisation around ideas such as inclusive governance, accountability, social justice and equitable opportunities.
The new appointments can therefore be seen as part of a wider attempt to build a political structure with people from different backgrounds.
Kamau brings long experience in elected politics and government. Siyat brings years of public administration, diplomacy and county government experience. Mohamed Ali brings parliamentary experience together with a long career in investigative journalism. Njiru brings legal experience and a strong public communication profile.
Kalonzo's announcement presented the four appointments as more than routine changes within a political party. He said the new officials would be part of the effort to create a united alternative government and advance the party's “Komboa Kenya” message.
For Wiper supporters, the next question will be how the new officials perform in their respective roles. A chairman has to help coordinate the party's political organisation, a deputy chairperson has a role in supporting the party's leadership and operations, while a deputy party leader designate is expected to take on a major role in political mobilisation and strategy.
The spokesperson's task will be different but equally important. Njiru will be expected to make the party's position easier for the public to understand at a time when political messages can quickly become complicated or controversial.
The appointments also show that Wiper is trying to position itself beyond a single-region political identity. The backgrounds of the four officials cover Murang'a, the Coast, northern Kenya and the wider national political space.
Whether the new team will succeed in giving Wiper greater national reach will depend on what happens after the announcement. Political appointments alone do not determine electoral strength. The party will still need to build its grassroots structures, attract supporters, maintain unity among its leaders and convince voters that its proposed alternative is workable.
For now, however, Kalonzo Musyoka has made his choice of senior officials clear. Jamleck Irungu Kamau takes the chairmanship, Siyat Osman Ibrahim becomes Deputy Chairperson, Mohamed Ali takes the position of Deputy Party Leader Designate, while Ndegwa Njiru becomes the party's first Spokesperson.
The four now become part of the leadership team that Wiper hopes will help carry its political message into the next stage of Kenya's national debate.
