DJ Macdee Reclaims Stolen DJ Mixer After Month-Long Search, Questions Release of Suspect

Popular Kikuyu radio presenter and event hype man DJ Macdee Top Mc has recovered his expensive DJM-S11 mixer, nearly a month after it was allegedly stolen during a break-in at his vehicle.

The entertainer took to social media to narrate the ordeal, saying his car was broken into in the early hours of July 7, between approximately 3:30am and 4:30am. According to Macdee, the incident left him devastated after the thieves allegedly vandalized his vehicle and made away with his high-value DJ mixer.

Immediately after the incident, Macdee reported the matter at Mugutha Police Station, where he says he received professional assistance from officers.

With his radio, television and client commitments continuing despite the loss, the DJ said he was forced to purchase another mixer just two days after the theft so that his work would not be disrupted.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn after Macdee and his colleagues reportedly spotted a DJM-S11 mixer being advertised online for KSh280,000.

The online advertisement immediately raised suspicion, particularly because it appeared to involve the same model of mixer that had been reported stolen. Macdee said he subsequently began receiving photographs and alerts from friends and fellow DJs who had also noticed the equipment being advertised.

He expressed gratitude to those who helped draw his attention to the advertisement, saying the information became crucial in efforts to trace the missing equipment.

According to his latest account, Macdee worked with two officers from Mugutha Police Station and his brother in an operation aimed at locating the mixer. He said the person advertising the equipment online was identified as DJ Mkenia, who eventually led them to a location where the mixer was allegedly being kept.

The search finally yielded results when the mixer was recovered from a home in Parklands belonging to a man identified by Macdee as Shah Ashish.

Macdee said the equipment was subjected to verification using its serial number and his original purchase receipt. According to him, the serial number matched the details on his receipt.

He also pointed to what he described as distinctive identifying marks on the mixer, including areas where his stickers had allegedly been removed. He said adhesive residue and traces of his blue-and-white theme colours remained on the equipment, which he believes further confirmed that the recovered mixer was his.

The recovery, however, appears to have opened another chapter in the entertainer's quest for justice.

Macdee said several second-hand electronic items were found at the Parklands residence, including televisions, mixers, generators, lights, speakers and other equipment.

He further claimed that Shah Ashish and the DJ who allegedly led them to the location were arrested and taken to Mugutha Police Station.

But according to Macdee, he was shocked when he returned to the station the following morning and was informed that Shah Ashish had already been released on cash bail at around midnight.

The entertainer questioned why the suspect was released without him, as the complainant and alleged owner of the recovered property, being consulted or informed.

Macdee has now publicly questioned the circumstances surrounding the alleged release, calling for transparency over the process followed by the police.

Among the questions he has raised is why a person allegedly found in possession of his recovered mixer was released while investigations were still underway, why the release allegedly happened at night and what procedure was followed in granting the reported cash bail.

He also questioned why he was not informed despite being the person who had reported the theft.

For Macdee, however, recovering the mixer is only part of the battle.

The entertainer says his biggest concern is establishing exactly who broke into his vehicle in the early hours of July 7 and stole the equipment in the first place.

In his latest social media statement, Macdee emphasized that recovering the mixer should not bring the investigation to an end. Instead, he wants the circumstances surrounding the original theft established and whoever was responsible held accountable through the law.

“Justice must prevail,” Macdee declared in his post.

The statement made it clear that his focus has shifted from simply recovering his property to seeking answers about the alleged break-in.

The incident has also highlighted the challenges faced by entertainers and DJs who depend on expensive technical equipment for their livelihoods. A professional DJ mixer such as the DJM-S11 can represent a significant investment, making its loss potentially disruptive to an entertainer's work and business commitments.

For Macdee, the impact was immediate. Rather than suspend his professional commitments, he said he bought another mixer within days of the theft so he could continue serving his radio and television audiences and honouring commitments to clients.

The recovery of the original equipment therefore comes as a significant relief, but the questions surrounding the alleged theft and subsequent police process remain central to his concerns.

Macdee has called for the investigation to proceed professionally, fairly and transparently. He says he is not asking for special treatment, but wants the circumstances of the theft investigated and the person or people responsible identified.

As the matter continues to attract attention among his fans, fellow entertainers and members of the local entertainment industry, the focus will now be on the police investigation and whether it will establish how the mixer allegedly ended up being advertised online and subsequently recovered.

Macdee's account represents his side of the incident, while the allegations surrounding the theft, possession of the equipment and the police handling of the suspects would need to be established through the ongoing investigative and legal processes.
