The Murang'a County Public Service Board is inviting applications from qualified Kenyans to fill various vacancies in regular cadre, contract, and internship programs.
Job Opportunities
1. Registered Clinical Officer - Anaesthetist (Job Group L) – 2 Posts
Cadre: Regular Cadre
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or Clinical Medicine and Community Health from a recognized institution.
- Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Anaesthesia).
- Valid practicing license and Registration Certificate from the Clinical Officers Council.
- Certificate in Computer Application from a recognized institution.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Taking history, examining, diagnosing, and treating patients' common ailments at outpatient or inpatient facilities.
- Guiding and counseling patients, clients, and staff on health issues.
- Referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.
- Assessing, preparing, and presenting medico-legal reports.
- Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings.
- Implementing community health care activities in liaison with other health workers.
- Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health.
- Providing clinical outreach and school health services.
- Carrying out minor surgical procedures as per training and skill.
- Collecting data and compiling clinical data.
2. Medical Officer (Job Group M) – 5 Posts
Terms of Service: Three (3) year contract
Minimum Requirements:
- Be a Kenyan citizen.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B., ChB.) degree from a recognized university in Kenya.
- Completed 12 months internship period.
- Registered as a Medical Practitioner by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Valid Practicing License.
- Demonstrable skills and experience in clinical areas with at least 3 years' experience.
- Acceptable moral and professional standing.
- Certificate in computer application skills (added advantage).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Attending to patients in clerking, diagnoses, management, and follow-up.
- Performing medical and surgical procedures.
- Responding to emergencies and disasters.
- Providing health education.
- Maintaining medical records, health information, and data.
- Participating in the management of medicines, medical instruments, and equipment.
- Counseling patients and relatives on diagnosis and bereavement.
- Teaching and coaching medical students, Medical Officer Interns, Nursing students/interns, and Clinical Officer students/interns.
- Any other duty assigned by the supervisor.
3. Accountant Intern – 3 Posts
Minimum Requirements:
- A pass in Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination or its recognized equivalent qualification, OR
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance option), Business Administration (Accounting option) from a recognized institution.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performing accounting work of limited scope under the guidance of a senior officer.
- Preparing and verifying vouchers in accordance with laid-down rules and regulations.
- Primary data entry and routine accounting work such as balancing cashbooks, imprest, and advances ledgers.
- Safe custody of assigned records and assets.
4. Occupational Therapist (Intern) – 1 Post
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma in Occupational Therapy or its approved equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered with the Kenya Occupational Therapists Association.
- Certificate in Computer Application Skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Planning and supervision for provision of occupational therapy services at outpatient departments, wards, or community-based rehabilitation.
- Assessing patients' needs for rehabilitation and formulating treatment plans.
- Acquiring, verifying, and maintaining patient information and data.
- Maintaining records of departmental supplies, including finished articles in the Occupational Therapy section.
- Collecting data for operational research.
- Sensitizing the community on occupational therapy issues and preparing periodic reports.
5. Physiotherapist (Intern) – 1 Post
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution.
- Certificate of registration and current certificate of practice from the Kenya Society of Physiotherapists (KSP).
- Certificate in Computer Application Skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Providing physiotherapy services to outpatients at units/wards/health institutions.
- Assessing patients' needs including rehabilitation.
- Verifying and maintaining patient information and records.
- Screening, assessing, and providing therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, electrotherapy, and hydrotherapy.
- Collecting data for operational research and preparing periodic reports.
- Sensitizing the community on physiotherapy issues.
6. Registered Nurse (Intern) – 26 Posts
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Registration Certificate and valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions, and evaluating patient outcomes.
- Providing healthcare services including IMCI, Immunization, PMTCT, Ante-Natal Care, and Delivery.
- Providing health education and counseling to patients/clients and the community.
- Referring patients and clients appropriately.
- Facilitating patient admissions and initiating discharge plans.
- Maintaining patient records, ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment, and compiling data.
7. Mortician (Intern) – 1 Post
Minimum Requirements:
- Be a Kenyan citizen.
- KCSE D (Plain).
- Diploma in Mortuary Science.
- Completed apprenticeship and passed a licensing exam.
- Membership in a registered funeral professional association.
- Training in embalming and grief counseling.
- Good interpersonal, communication, English, and Swahili language skills alongside computer proficiency.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collecting and receiving bodies within and outside the hospital through prescribed procedures.
- Recording bodies received.
- Washing, embalming, and refrigerating bodies.
- Scrubbing and assisting in post-mortems.
- Counseling relatives and releasing bodies as per laid-down procedures.
Internship Program: Terms & Eligibility
- Type & Duration: Full-time, 12 Months (Non-renewable).
- Remuneration: Monthly stipend determined by the County Government.
- Age Limit: Kenyan citizen not over 35 years of age.
- Education Window: Unemployed graduate who completed a Diploma or Degree course in the last 24 months or less.
- Prior Experience: None. Applicants must not have benefited from a similar internship or formal employment since graduating.
- Preference: Murang'a residents will be prioritized while adhering to regional balance principles.
