JKUAT TikToker Derrick Omollo Laid to Rest in Emotional Final Send-Off in Kisii

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student and TikToker Derrick Omollo has been laid to rest in an emotional ceremony in Marani, Kisii County.

Family members, friends, former schoolmates, fellow students and content creators gathered on Friday, September 18, 2026, to bid farewell to the young content creator whose life was tragically cut short in Juja, Kiambu County.

The burial marked the end of a difficult journey for Derrick's family after his death earlier this month.

Who was Derrick Omollo?

Derrick Omollo was a 21-year-old third-year student at JKUAT and a growing TikTok content creator.

He had gained a significant following online through comedy and relatable content, particularly content connected to university and young people's experiences.

Fellow content creators described him as a promising young creator whose audience had grown rapidly in a short period.

What happened to Derrick Omollo?

Derrick died on September 1, 2026, after falling into an abandoned quarry in Juja while reportedly trying to escape from men who had confronted him and his colleagues.

According to a police account reported by The Star, Derrick and three other JKUAT students had gone to an area near a quarry to shoot content on their phones.

The group reportedly arrived at the area at around 4:30pm. At approximately 6pm, they were allegedly confronted by four men armed with knives who demanded their phones.

The students attempted to flee in different directions. Three managed to escape, but Derrick reportedly ran towards the quarry and fell into an open section of the pit.

Police said the quarry was about 40 metres deep and that Derrick suffered fatal injuries after hitting his head on a rock. He also sustained fractures to both legs.

His body was later retrieved and taken to General Kago Mortuary in Thika as investigations continued.

His final journey to Kisii

Derrick's remains left General Kago Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17, ahead of his burial in Kisii.

Family members and friends gathered before the journey home as they prepared to give the young JKUAT student and TikToker a dignified farewell.

The journey eventually ended in Marani, Kisii County, where relatives, friends and mourners gathered for the burial.
