Gachagua Goes After Mudavadi & Wetangula

The political temperatures in Western Kenya just hit boiling point. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, now leading the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), took the United Alternative Government (UAG) opposition campaign straight to Luanda, Vihiga County.

While the tour was aimed at consolidating the massive Western vote bank ahead of the 2027 polls, it is Gachagua's unfiltered, raw attack on the region's top leaders that has the internet in a frenzy.

1. The Core Brief: The "Betrayal" of the Luhya Nation

Gachagua didn't mince words. He went flat-out after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing them of selling out the Western region for personal gain.

The 30% Deal Forgotten: Gachagua reminded the crowd that Mudavadi and Wetang'ula signed an MoU with President Ruto for 30% of government slots. Now that they have lucrative jobs, he claims they completely stopped fighting for it.

Dead Promises: He pointed out that the 1,000 kilometers of tarmacked roads and the solid revival of Mumias and Nzoia Sugar companies have been completely abandoned because the two leaders "fear being kicked out of government.

. The Viral Part: "Kucheza na Tumbo" & Political Diarrhea

The part lighting up social media right now stems from Gachagua’s signature, hard-hitting vernacular metaphors regarding political greed.

Addressing the Luanda crowd, Gachagua blasted Mudavadi and Wetang’ula for practicing "siasa ya tumbo" (belly politics). He told the residents that the two leaders used the Luhya community's numbers to bargain for power, only to satisfy their own stomachs while the ground starved.

"Musalia ni muoga, Wetang'ula anafuata mambo yake na tumbo yake..." (Musalia is a coward, Wetang'ula is just following his own stomach...)

The Big Takeaway

Gachagua and the opposition coalition (including Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa) are sending a clear warning to Kenya Kwanza: they are tracking a path to mobilize 20 million votes for 2027, and they are starting by dismantling the absolute grip Mudavadi and Wetang'ula thought they had on the Mulembe nation.

For a raw look at the fiery rhetoric and how the crowd reacted on the ground, you can check out this video covering Gachagua's direct onslaught against Mudavadi and Wetang'ula, which captures the exact moments he accused the duo of prioritizing their stomachs over their community's interests.
