The Battle Lines Are Drawn: President Ruto Hits Back at The Standard Media

Tensions between the government and the press have reached a boiling point today. President William Ruto has publicly and fiercely responded to recent bold headlines published by The Standard newspaper, accusing the media house of running a coordinated smear campaign against him and his administration.

The Issue: Scrutinizing the Track Record

Over the past week, The Standard has been releasing a series of hard-hitting headlines targeting the President's track record and policies. The bold coverage has clearly touched a nerve at State House, escalating a long-standing political rivalry between the President and Gideon Moi, whose family has significant stakes in the Standard Media Group.

The Harsh Response

Refusing to let the narrative slide, President Ruto took to X (formerly Twitter) this morning to deliver a scathing rebuttal.

Directly addressing Gideon Moi as "GMoi," Ruto labeled the newspaper's five-days-a-week coverage as "EXTORTIONIST propaganda." He categorically dismissed the headlines as an attempt to blackmail him into yielding to greed, making it clear that such tactics would get the publication "NOTHING & NOWHERE."

In a defiant closing statement, the President asserted that "Kenya belongs to all Kenyans, not you alone," and challenged the media house to "Jaribu 8 days a week. Do your WORST."
