Samidoh Responds to Questions Over Ol Joro Orok 2027 MP Bid
Mugithi artist Samidoh Muchoki has responded to questions and criticism surrounding his decision to seek the Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
The popular musician recently announced his candidature, a move that has attracted public attention and sparked debate over whether an entertainer can successfully transition into elective politics.
Responding to those questioning his suitability for Parliament, Samidoh said he has taken time to listen to the questions, criticism and conversations that followed his announcement.
He singled out one question that he said has repeatedly emerged: “How can a Mugithi artist go to Parliament?”
According to Samidoh, the question is fair, but he argued that those asking it should consider his entire life and experience rather than focusing only on his music career.
Before becoming a Mugithi artist, Samidoh served as a police officer. He said his work in the National Police Service involved taking an oath to serve and protect life and property, uphold the law and restore order.
He recalled being deployed to challenging areas, including Garissa and Mpeketoni, where he experienced difficult working environments.
Samidoh also highlighted his humble background, saying he understands the struggles faced by ordinary Kenyans because he has experienced them himself.
He said he pursued his education and obtained a university degree before building a successful career in music. His music career has taken him across Kenya and beyond, allowing him to interact with people from different communities and gain experiences and networks that he believes can be used to create opportunities for the people of Ol Joro Orok.
“So yes, I am a Mugithi artist. But that is not the entirety of who I am,” Samidoh said.
The musician urged residents and his critics to judge his political ambitions based on his character, experience, record and vision rather than simply the profession that made him famous.
He said he wants his ideas on education, vocational training, talent development, youth empowerment and constituency development to be subjected to public debate.
On education, Samidoh said he intends to focus on practical measures that can improve access to education, support students and create opportunities for young people.
He also spoke about vocational and technical training, arguing that young people need practical skills that can help them earn a living rather than simply collecting certificates.
Talent development is another area he intends to champion. Drawing from his own experience in the entertainment industry, Samidoh said he wants to help create structures that can enable young people in Ol Joro Orok to turn their talents into sustainable careers.
He further said youth empowerment should involve connecting young people with available opportunities while exploring what Parliament can do to make such opportunities more accessible.
On development, Samidoh said he intends to use the position of Member of Parliament to advocate for the needs of Ol Joro Orok and ensure the constituency receives the attention and resources it deserves.
He insisted that he is not asking residents to elect him simply because he is a musician.
“I am asking you to listen to what I intend to do, examine my character and experience, interrogate my ideas, and then make your judgement,” he said.
Samidoh welcomed scrutiny and public debate, saying he would be honoured to earn the support of Ol Joro Orok residents because they believe he has the character, experience, capacity and vision required to represent them in Parliament.
“The music is my profession. Service is my calling. Ol Joro Orok is my home. And representation is the responsibility I am seeking,” he said.
Samidoh said he will in the coming days share more details about his political vision and the specific issues he intends to champion for the people of Ol Joro Orok.
His announcement now places him among the individuals expected to attract attention as political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to take shape in the constituency.
