Girl Rescued After Sexual Assault and Pregnancy in Nyandarua as Brother Sentenced to Life

NDEMI, Nyandarua — August 20, 2026

A minor who was sexually assaulted and impregnated by her brother has been rescued and placed under protection following an intervention in Ndemi, Wanjohi Ward, Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County.

According to a statement shared by Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Wairimu Gitau, the girl was found in an advanced stage of pregnancy and was immediately transferred to a secure rescue shelter to ensure her safety.

She was later taken to Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she safely delivered before being returned to the rescue shelter.

The girl's brother was arrested, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment over the sexual assault.

The intervention was coordinated by Director Betty Muchina of CRVWWDA in collaboration with the Woman Representative's team.

The case has renewed calls for stronger measures to protect children from sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), particularly in communities where victims may face barriers to reporting abuse and accessing protection.

Gitau said the fight against SGBV requires sustained community awareness campaigns alongside strict enforcement of the law to challenge harmful practices and address gaps in the protection of vulnerable children.

The rescue also highlights the importance of early intervention, safe shelters, access to medical care and cooperation between community leaders, authorities and child-protection organisations in responding to cases of sexual violence.

The identity of the child has not been disclosed to protect her privacy.
